SUNO
New York based women’s luxury fashion brand SUNO has been a style trailblazer with its progressive efforts toward fair-trade business practices. Max Osterweis discovered his love for Kenya and its colorful textiles as a filmmaker. After witnessing post election violence he was driven by a desire to use his talents to create a positive change. Max teamed up with fashion designer and friend, Erin Beatty, a Parsons graduate and former designer for The Gap and Generra, to launch a high-end fashion collection with a conscience. The early collections of ready-to-wear pieces were crafted from Max’s vast private collection of vintage Kenyan kangas, a colorful traditional garment worn in the African Great Lake region.
Since its inception in 2008, SUNO has grown from its original African roots to include production in Kenya, India, Peru and New York. SUNO’s entire collection is ethically sourced and produced and SUNO proudly employs local talents from each country to improve its local economy while creating unique prints and textiles.
A favorite of Michelle Obama, Sofia Coppola and Solange Knowles, SUNO is not only a fashion innovator with its colorful, fresh and optimistic collection, but also a philanthropic and social-minded fashion brand making a positive impact in our world and that to us is true luxury.
